This week has been very dry in gaming guys. Today’s post is going to be slightly different. Instead of a lot of news, there’s a couple games and things in the gaming community that I’m going to talk about.
News Roundup
- Saints Row Developer joins Beyond Good and Evil 2 as a the lead writer.
- Playstation and XBOX going back and forth regarding the Activision acquisition.
- Deviation games is working on a new IP for playstation.
- Dead Island 2 re-reveal is said to be scheduled later this year.
Saints Row Dev Is Now The Beyond Good And Evil 2 Lead Writer

Beyond Good And Evil 2 was originally announced in 2008, then there was a gameplay demo reveal in 2018. As of last month it was reported that the game was in the playtesting phase. On August 4th 2022 it was reported that the game was changing lead writers. Sarah Arellano of Ubisoft Montpellier and lead writer of the upcoming Saints Row 2022 installment, is now the lead writer of Beyond Good And Evil 2 as well. My excitement about this news is completely dependent on how good the new Saints Row game is, I have my copy preordered and I really hope I enjoy it. I still haven’t played the original Beyond Good And Evil but It’s definitely on my “must play” list. Like I said before, I’m keeping my eye on this games development because it looked good in the gameplay demo and I’d love to see the final product. (XmanFiles)
Playstation Vs XBOX Regarding The Activision Deal

On this blog we have our preferences on consoles but at the end of the day a spade needs to be called a spade. (None of the following is verbatim) Essentially this past week there was an exchange between Playstation, XBOX and regulators. In few words, Playstation said they were scared that Microsoft owning the Call of Duty franchise would be non-competitive and that it would influence console sales (that’s the ultimate goal is it not ?). They went on to point out the impact that Call of Duty has on the gaming industry (which was fair and is very true). This is mind boggling that Playstation would act like this toward this deal when they have the JRPG scene almost on lock and they are on the cusp of either completely owning or majorly owning Square Enix. The hypocrisy. XBOX’s response was no better. They basically went on to try and downplay the significance of Call of Duty in this deal by saying that there was nothing special about the franchise. Maybe they’re talking about the quality of the games or maybe they’re talking about the games place in its genre, either way its laughable. I understand that XBOX is trying to get this deal to go through so of course they’ll downplay and trivialize anything that could come up and jeopardize the deal closing. All in all this was very funny to watch unfold. If you want to get the finer details, Rand al Thor 19’s YouTube channel has a couple videos highlighting and summarizing the main points. (XmanFiles)
Deviation Games Has A New IP In Development

Deviation games, the newly acquired Sony first party game Studio, is working on a first-person shooter franchise that is planned to be supported for years And possibly generations to come. While little is known about this new franchise, Developers at Deviation Games consist of veterans from other studios responsible for creating Call of Duty and other high-profile games. Once released, this game will receive many multiplayer and single-player content updates. The rumor is that this game will be delivered to us in 2024. At the earliest, I would expect to start hearing some details next year in the first quarter regarding the setting, gameplay, and possibly how this live service title will be structured. Recently it’s been said that motion capture has begun for the characters and assets in this game. This title will be especially crucial for Sony as they are lacking world class multiplayer FPS games in their first party library. Additionally this title is very important because the future of Call of Duty is in question even though Sony currently has locked and secured plans to get exclusive content and have access to the Call of Duty franchise. Although Microsoft has made no explicit statements that they will make this an exclusive Xbox only title, Sony has to develop their own franchise so they are as dependent on the Call of Duty games that Activision has released yearly. I am super excited because it’s a new IP and we’ll give everyone who only has a PlayStation console one more reason to brag on the quality games Sony continues to deliver. Hopes are high and although this is a new studio, it boasts developers that worked on the Call of Duty Black Ops franchise which is highly acclaimed. Other questions I have around this title are with regard to setting – will it be open world or at least sandbox? Will there be vehicles? – All of which are too early to speculate upon. The Hope also is that this is purely a PlayStation 5 game. I would hate for the developers to be challenged with making this compatible for PS4 also as it tends to hamper the features that can be put into the game. It will also be interesting to see how they incorporate use of the haptic feedback and triggers for this title. (JusBernard)
Dead Island 2 Re-reveal is Speculated To Be Later This Year

Another game that was announced what feels like ages ago, is reportedly in playtesting and will get revealed (for the second time) relatively soon. Details about the game were also noted, going on to point out how there will be emphasis on co-op, multiple new locations, and a handful of new characters to pick from. The DualShockers article has more facts on it but I’m interested in this game. I haven’t finished the first game but from what I’ve played, there’s a lot of potential for this game in this day and age. I think Dying Light 2 didn’t hit the spots that the public wanted it to and this has the potential to deliver in the areas Dying Light 2 lacked. (XmanFiles)
Conversation Of The Week
This week I’ve just been paying attention to what people have been saying about games specific and general and I’ve come to a conclusion. We as a community are spoiled and picky. There’s a sense of duality to this though. We essentially dictate what games we play by letting the developers and publishers know what we want (In ways that are both good and bad). On this front there needs to be unity so there can be more pure experiences allowing for creativity. I’m talking in regards to companies greed and anti-consumer practices as well as promising things they cannot uphold. On the flip side of this topic, we as gamers can be mean and inconsiderate as well as uncompromising/unrealistic. We love games that’s a given. But finished games are better than crap games everyday of the week. There are a lot of titles that saw delays this year. Yea its a bummer but be excited and hopeful that the final product will be the developers full realization of their work of art and our exceptional recreational hobby. don’t harass devs because something doesn’t have a release date. Don’t bad talk studios because they want their cake to have more time in the oven. I’m almost certain we all have backlogs and there’s all kinds of games on sale every week. Find a new adventure or revisit one you never saw through to the end. Gaming should bring people together to share and experience things together not be a platform for brooding and negativity. Rise above it all.
I played a lot of Yakuza 0 this week. Initially I didnt realize how dense and detailed this game was. I’m on chapter 7 with 26 hours played and im very happy with what I’ve seen thus far. I cant wait to see what this entire series has to offer and the fact that they’re working on a new installment excites me even more.
